This mini sunset beach maternity session was thrown together on short notice. My husband and I had been out of town for a few days and when I checked the weather schedule for the Seattle area, I noticed that there were a couple of warm days with beautiful sunshine headed our way. I phone a good friend of mine who was 39 weeks pregnant at the time and asked her if she would be my model to shoot a few photos at Alki Beach at sunset. Silly of me to not realize that would be dealing with a few challenges 1) Alki is INSANELY busy when the sun comes out; especially those first few warm days. Traffic was a nightmare and people were everywhere. EVERYWHERE. 2) The tide was in, so there was maaayyyyyybe 10 feet of ‘beach’ area to work with. Couple that with multiple bodies every couple of yards down the beach…. let’s just say there wasn’t a whole lot of area to spread out for shooting. 3) At 39 weeks pregnant, most women are pretty much done being pregnant. They are uncomfortable, not feeling their best, and sometimes having trouble moving around. This was no exception. The little one had positioned herself in such a way that her poor momma was having some major hip trouble. For this reason, we really needed to keep any walking or movement to a minimum.
All in all, we spent about 15 minutes shooting. The sun had a strange haze over it so we didn’t quite stay until sundown, but the light was gorgeous and Julie looked amazing on camera. Here are a couple of my favorites from her mini sunset beach maternity session.
